Mahavir Jayanti 2025 will be celebrated across the country on April 10, 2025. The festival celebrating the birth of Mahavir, the greatest preachers and founder of Jainism is also known as Mahavir Janma Kalyanak. Mahavir Jayanti is a gazetted holiday and as such central government offices and institutions as well as many schools will remain closed tomorrow. The day is also observed as a Bank Holiday in most of the cities across the country.
It may be noted that while the day is a designated public holiday, banks will be operational in a few cities while closed in few. List of cities and states where Mahavir Jayanti 2025 will be a bank holiday is given below.
It is noteworthy that tomorrow would be a bank holiday in all 4 metro cities of New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata as well as in Bengaluru. Most of the big cities in Northern and Eastern India will also observe a public holiday tomorrow and banks will remain closed.

As for banks, some states have included the day within their list of public holidays while others have not. As per the information, banks will be working tomorrow in Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Patna, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar and Thiruvananthapuram. Furthermore, no bank holiday will be observed in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
It is worth to note that bank holiday would mean that all offline transcations will be closed tomorrow. This may also include a delay in clearing. Online transactions, including UPI payments, however, will not be impacted due to bank holiday.
