Kaun Banega Crorepati
Kaun Banega Crorepati or KBC is an Indian Television game show that started in the year 2000. The show is based on the hit British programme – Who wants to be a Millionaire. The show started in the year 2000 on Star Plus, where three seasons of the show were telecast from 2000 to 2007. The show was then moved to Sony TV and has remained a mainstay for the channel. Kaun Banega Crorepati was launched with Indian Superstar Amitabh Bachchan as the host of the show. The show was an instant hit. The pattern of the show was similar to the British show. A contestant was required to answer 15 questions, with each question winning the contestant money in return. The grand prize was Rs. 1 crore or 10 million rupees. The show premiered on July 3, 2000 and ended on December 31, 2001. Following the tremendous success and popularity of Amitabh Bachchan, the game show returned for its second season in 2005 with the prize money doubled to 2 crore rupees. The show, Kaun Banega Crorepati had to end mid-season when Amitabh Bachchan had to step out due to health reasons. The third season returned with superstar Shah Rukh Khan as a host as Amitabh Bachchan had declined. The success was relatively less and the show ended in 2007 after a mild run. To the happiness of many, Kaun Banega Crorepati made a comeback for its fourth season with its original host Amitabh Bachchan back in the chair of the quiz master. The pattern of the quiz show was tweaked where in the total prize money was again curtailed to Rs. 1 crore and a Jackpot question was added. The prize for the jackpot question was set at Rs. 5 crore. The number of helplines were also increased from three to four and time limit revised for the questions. The pattern has since then been modified slightly but retained its basic format. Kaun Banega Crorepati is now all set to return to Sony TV for its 12th season. The shooting for the show was delayed this year due to pandemic. Amitabh Bachchan would be hosting the show and started shooting for the show from September 7. The Season 12 would premier on Sony TV on September 28, 2020. This year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Audience Poll helpline has been replaced by ‘Video a Friend’ option.
