Brown University Cancels Final Exams, Sends Students Home After Deadly Shooting at the Ivy League Campus

In the aftermath of the deadly shooting at Brown University, the varsity has decided to cancel the final exams. The Ivy League University has sent the students home and cancelled the on-going final exams, classes as well as assignments for the fall semester. Two students were killed and 9 injured in the shooting on campus on Saturday.

Even as the university and the city mourns the loss of the young lives, the manhunt continues. Providence police had apprehended a person of interest yesterday but early morning reports suggest that the person has now been released.

Unknown to all, the study session during the finals exams at the Barus & Holley Engineering building turned deadly when an assailant entered and opend fire. Unconfirmed reports suggest the masked man entered the classroom and shouted before diring indiscriminately.

University soon issued an active shooter alert at 4:20 pm New York time, sending out a shelter in place order. A campus wide lockdown was initiated and authorities were reported on the campus in no time. The active search continued late into the night but there were no reported leads. Video of a man in black was released by the Provdience police but the investigation is still underway.

An Atmosphere of Fear Among Students

Videos of scared students huddled in the library at the campus promptly went viral on X. Students were seen crouching and hiding behind book shelves as police enters the library to announce their presence and ensure the student’s safety. Even as the members of the police department ensure that they would protect them, the fear is palpable on the faces of the young students.

A student shared that he had skipped the study session and was terrified. He and his roommate hid under their beds in the hostel till 3 am and continue to be in a state of panic. Many students like him have expressed the desire to leave the campus at the earliest.
