CBSE Board Exams 2026: What’s changing?
The new session is underway and so are the preparations. For the students who would be appearing for their Class 10 and 12 CBSE Board Exams next year, the most important question is – what’s changing.
Well to begin with, CBSE will be conducting the Class 10 Board exams twice next year. The information has been passed on and draft set of rules have already been published on the website for general public scrutiny and feedback. The board is now under the process of reviewing the suggestions and feedback received.
Based on the same and after deliberation, CBSE will soon release the two-board format and how it would be conducted. There is a small chance (very very small) the board might decide to delay the two-board format. The information for the same will be made available within the month of April itself.
Also, there is chatter about the possibility of CBSE introducing Standard and Basic variants in Science and Social Science as well for Class 10 (much like in Class 10 Mathematics). This, however, is only speculative at best now and the board has not confirmed any such changes as yet. In case, however, CBSE does decide to introduce the same, it is important to note that the syllabus for the subjects will remain the same.
As for the curriculum of senior secondary classes, Class 11 and 12, the board has not announced any changes. Earlier next year, however, CBSE had shared its proposed gradual change in exam pattern to include more concept based questions. This change in pattern, if any, will be available once CBSE releases the sample papers for next year board exams. Information available suggests that the exam pattern for Class 12, at present, will remain the same as was this year.
