Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE is getting ready to conduct two board exams soon for class 10. As per the information available, CBSE Board Exams are most likely to be conducted twice a year from the 2026-27 academic session. The central board is likely to release the draft rules for the same by next week.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan recently chaired a meeting with Secretary, DoSEL, Secretary ER, MEA, heads of CBSE, NCERT, KVS, NVS along with representatives of global schools. The meeting discussed on the action points of launching a global curriculum for Foreign Schools from 2026-27. It was during this meeting that the CBSE officials and officials from Ministry of Education shared the information.
Speaking on the possibility, the Education Minister told reporters that they are currently working on the plan and draft rules for conducting board examinations twice would be shared soon.

CBSE Board Exams Twice a Year
The rationale for conducting two boards is to reduce the anxiety of students in regard the examination. The intent, Minister told reporters, is to assess the learning of the students and not pressure them. Conducting boards twice a year would give the students the freedom to appear for the exams at their own pace.
Expected to be modelled on the lines of standardized tests like SATs famous in America and other common tests in other countries, CBSE intends to give students the option to appear for the exams and submit their best scores.
While details are awaited, it is likely that two boards would be much like in line with the current system of JEE Main exams. Students are likely to have the option of appearing for both or any one of the examinations. Students will also then have the option of choosing the better of the two scores for their final result.
CBSE Board Exams: What to Expect
What needs to be now checked is if the board would make it effective for all papers or would students have an option of appearing for selected subjects for the second paper. Further, the timing or gap between the proposed two board exams as well as the mode of paper is also awaited.
Two board exams may further mean a completely or largely objective or MCQ based question paper. The board has already shifted large portion of the paper pattern to multiple choice questions. What is now awaited is to see if CBSE would continue to maintain the paper pattern or shift to larger weight of MCQ based paper.
If reports are to be believed, CBSE is likely to announce this on Monday next. The draft guidelines would be put on the open portal and the central board would seek feedback from all stakeholders (teachers, experts, parents) on the proposed move.
Further, at present it is likely that two boards would be first introduced for Class 10 only and may then be extended to Class 12 board exams subsequently. The latter, given the number of entrance examinations and scheduling constraints, however, may seem difficult.
