Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE Result 2025 is out today. Over 42 lakh students of class 10 and 12 across the globe appeared for the board examinations conducted earlier this year. The results are finally here and available on cbse.gov.in, results.digilocker.gov.in soon.
Here is a look at CBSE Toppers, what is the Merit List and what is the Grading System followed by CBSE. Students and parents may please check 10th Result 2025 and 12th Result 2025 link here for the result.
CBSE Toppers List 2025
Please note, the Central Board has discontinued the practice of releasing a list of toppers. The board believes that releasing the name of toppers and their marks creates a disproportionate amount of anxiety. It has, however, shared that over 1 lakh students have scored above 90% marks. Furthermore, 24,867 students only have scored above 95% marks.
As for CBSE 10th Result, 45,516 students have scored more than 95% marks and 1,99,944 students have scored more than 90% marks in this year’s examination.
Schools, however, based on the internal network, are expected to release a list of students who have performed exceptionally well. Details of these students and their stories will be shared once made available.
Merit List
While the board does not release the list of toppers, it does prepare a list of merit or a merit list of students. Accordingly, the board issues a certificate of Merit to all such students. This list, please note, is not shared by the board.
The criteria for CBSE Merit List if that the student must place or score marks in the top 0.1% candidates passing the subject. To understand this, let us presume that 10 lakh students appeared for Subject A. Out of these 10 lakhs, say 9.9 lakh students passed the exam. Now, all the students who place in the top 0.1% of these (that is top 990) students will be placed in the list of Merit for that subject.
Please remember, Merit List is not created for subjects where the number of students is less than a threshold number of 10,000 students. Also, in case say in the above example, out of 9.9 lakh students, about 1100 students score 100 marks. Now, as per calculation, this is more than the 0.1% (which would be 990 students). In such a case, CBSE will issue a certificate of merit in that subject to all 1100 students.
CBSE Marksheet: Grading System
With the Class 10, 12 Results, the board will also release the CBSE Marksheet. This marksheet will have the subject wise marks scored by the students. The marks will also have the breakup of marks scored by student in internal assessment/ practical exam; marks scored in theory paper as well as the Grades.
The grades allotted by CBSE, however, are not as per the basic marks scored but rather on the percentile position of the marks scored. Parents are advised to please note that the grading system is also explained at the back of the marksheet cum passing certificate issued by the board.
CBSE Board Exams 2025
CBSE 10th 12th Board Examination 2025 were conducted from February 15, 2025 to April 4, 2025. As per the official figures, 24,12,072 students registered for the Class X examination while 17,88,165 candidates registered for Class XII exams. Examination for Class 10 were conducted for 84 subjects while a total of 120 subjects were examined for Class 12. CBSE released Class X, XII Results 2025 on May 12, 2025.
