Schools and Colleges are closed today – December 2, 2025 across various parts of Tamil Nadu. District Administrations have announced Chennai school holiday for today as well as in Tiruvallur and Kanchipuram districts. The decision was taken after IMD forecast of heavy rainfall in the area due to Cyclone Ditwah.
Disctrict Collector Roshni Siddharth Jagade has announced closure of all educational institutions in the city of Chennai. The decision to announce Chennai school holiday was taken for the safety of the students. Many areas are inundated due to water logging. Parents and students are hence informed to remain safe. Schools in Puducherry will also remain closed today as well.
Tamil Nadu Rains, Chennai Weather
IMD has issued a warning of moderate to very heavy rainfall in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram districts. The rainfall is due to Cyclone Ditwah which continues to move northwards.
Weather department has shared that the cyclone is expected to curve south westwards and weaken over the next twelve hours. Meanwhile, as a security meaures, schools and colleges were ordered shut.
Cyclone Ditwah
Cyclone Ditwah continues to move but has weaked over the past few days. Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has predicted that it would continue to move further upwards and bring extreme weather to coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Warnings have been issued to the coastal region and administration is closely monitoring the movement of the cyclone. The impact of cyclone is expected to dissipate over the next few days.
