IIT Bombay Cancels Pre-Registration, Bans Outsiders from its Cultural Fest Mood Indigo Over Safety Concerns

Indian Institute of Technology, IIT Bombay just announced its decision to cancel all pre-registrations for its on-going cultural fest – Mood Indigo. Citing safety and traffic concerns, the institute has banned entry of all outsiders for the remaining two days – which is December 17 and 18.

The three day annual cultural festival Mood Indigo started on Tuesday – December 16, 2025. As is the norm, students were required to register in advance for the festival. However, not everything went well. As per the official statement, many students who had not registered showed up at the gate and had to be turned away. There was no provision for spot registration.

Keeping in view the chaos that ensure, the administration has now decided to cancel all pre-registrations as well for the remaining two days of the event. Only the campus residents along with the participants of various competitions are now allowed entry. No outsider will be allowed.

What went Wrong

On the first day of the cultural fest, a large crowd of students showed up to participate in the event. While many did have their passes, a lot of the students did not have any.

Unconfirmed eye-witnesses have shared that a stampede like situation near gymkhana arose due to the crowd. Many are even blaming the authorities for poor crowd management.

The institute, however, has clarified that the situation erupted due to a large crowd of students who did not have permission to enter. Keeping the safety of the students in mind, no entry without passes were allowed.

To avoid the repeat of the chaos that erupted at the campus yesterday, IIT Bombay has now decide to cancel all the passes issued so far. The entry, as mentioned earlier, is restricted and no outsider is now allowed (except participants) to Mood Indigo.
