Chennai schools are closed for today– December 3, 2025. District Collector, Rashmi Sidharth Zagade has announced a school holiday in Chennai for December 3, Wednesday in the wake of heavy rainfall alert. Many parts of Tamil Nadu are also expected to announce a school holiday today. Schools will also remain closed in Tiruvallur district.
The state continues to receive moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts due to Cyclone Ditwah. Indian Meteorological Department, IMD has issued a fresh forecast of very heavy rainfall in certain parts of Tamil Nadu. Schools were ordered shut today in Chennai and other districts for the same.
In addition to the same, University of Madras has decided to postpone the exam schedule for December 3 for now. Students are advised to check the university bulletin board for latest updates.
Tamil Nadu Rains: Weather Forecast for Tomorrow
As per IMD, Theni, Dindigul, Tiruppur, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Salem and Namakkal districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall today, December 3. Heavy rainfall is expected in isolated places in the districts.
Meanwhile, Karaikal and Puducherry – which have seen very heavy rainfall, are expected to get a breather. Though rains are expected to continue, the intensity is expected to weaken to a moderate rainfall. The area is also experiencing thunder storms.
Heavy rainfall alert in isolated areas of Erode, Nilgiris and Coinmbatore districts has also been shared.
As for Chennai, the city is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorm and lightning. The temperature in the city has also dipped. Wednesday sky will remain overcast.
