Shahid Kapoor is the latest Bollywood star to join the OTT bandwagon. He is all set to make his OTT debut with a big action-packed thriller film based on Operation Cactus. If we go by the industry insider’s report, Shahid Kapoor has signed a multi-film deal with the online streaming giant, Netflix.
This movie is expected to go on floors in mid-2021, after the completion of his film, Jersey. In this untitled project, Shahid will be portraying the character of Brigadier Farukh Bulsara. Who was the mainstay of the Operation Cactus. The story is based on Operation Cactus that the Indian government launched in the Maldives Islands in 1988.
The Netflix film is going to be directed by Aditya Nimbalkar, who is also making his directorial debut with the Shahid starrer action-thriller film. He has earlier assisted Vishal Bhardwaj in films such as
For the uninitiated, Operation Cactus was the name of operation, that was launched by the Government of India to prevent coup d’état by a group of Maldivian businessman Abdullah Luthufi. He was also joined by armed mercenaries of a Tamil secessionist organisation from Sri Lanka, the People’s Liberation Organisation of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE). This coup d’état was averted by the Indian Special forces and the Indian Navy. The Year was 1988 and the then president of Maldives was Maumoon Abdul Gayoom.

He is currently working on the film: Jersey. It’s a remake of Telugu movie with the same name. The actor essays the role of a cricketer. The shooting for the film is currently halted due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, earlier this year.
