The latest sports movie depicting a comeback of middle-aged “Jersey”, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur is postponed. The comeback is motivated by two goals:
the desire to represent India in cricket and the fulfilment of his son’s dream to get a jersey (as a gift).
However, due to the rising cases of Omicron, the civil limitations are reimposed. The producers of the sports drama ‘Jersey‘ chose to postpone the film’s theatrical release.
As per the original plan, Jersey was expected to release on the New Year’s Ev. That is December 31st. However, as of now the movie stands postponed. This move was prompted by the Delhi government order for the closure of cinema halls, spas, and gyms on Tuesday. This is done in order to reduce or prevent the rising number of COVID-19 / Omicron cases.
The makers issued a statement for Shahid Kapoor’s Jersey Postponed:
“In view of the current circumstances and new Covid guidelines we have decided to postpone the theatrical release of our film ‘Jersey’. We have received immense love from you all so far and want to thank you all for everything. Until then everyone please stay safe and healthy and wish you all the best for the new year ahead (sic)!!”
In addition to Shahid and Mrunal, Gowtam Tinnanuri’s film also stars Pankaj Kapoor. Jersey is a remake of the same-titled Telugu film from 2019. In this film, the Jab We Met fame actor will play the reel coach. And he will reprise his role as Satyaraj from Nani’s Jersey!
Following the success of ‘Kabir Singh,’ Shahid Kapoor was enthusiastic about the film. which seemed to be full of emotions and drama. The trailer for ‘Jersey’ garnered over 50 million views, confirming that the film is positively received by the wide audience.
