Processed Meats

Let say this is the most common one. With the abundance of studies associating processed meats to all sorts of illnesses. This is not one bit surprising.

So, what is processed meat?

According to experts eating too much bacon, sausages, hot dogs, canned meat, or lunch meat—meat that has been processed in some way to preserve or flavor it—is bad for health. A number of studies have found links between processed meat and various forms of cancer, as well as heart disease and diabetes. There are several studies that have linked processed meat intake to lower sperm count, however, the results were not entirely consistent.

Soy Products

Soy produce contain phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are basically estrogen-like compounds that come from plants. According to Healthline, some scientists are concerned that a high intake of phytoestrogens may disrupt the body’s hormonal balance.

According to a study done by the fertility clinics in Boston, excessive soy intake might decrease sperm concentration. Apart from this, a study published in the Society for Endocrinology suggests that high consumption of soy may have negative impacts on testosterone levels.

Trans Fats

Trans fat are a form of unsaturated Fat. These Trans Fats are generally considered unhealthy for both the genders. And TF’s is associated with a number of negative health effects. Trans Fats are usually found in many fried, “fast” packaged, or processed foods.

Trans fat in your food

  • Baked goods, such as cakes, cookies and pies.
  • Shortening.
  • Microwave popcorn.
  • Frozen pizza.
  • Refrigerated dough, such as biscuits and rolls.
  • Fried foods, including french fries, doughnuts and fried chicken.
  • Nondairy coffee creamer.
  • Stick margarine.

Researchers are primarily concerned about trans fats increasing the risk of heart disease. Unfortunately, they are also linked with a study that increased intake of trans fats are also linked with decreased sperm counts.

Pesticides and bisphenol-A (BPA)

With the ever increasing use of pesticides in the agriculture sector. We have a new heath problem the pesticides end up on vegetables and fruits that we consume.

High fat dairy products

Next in list we have, high fat dairy products. According to the Rochester Young Men’s Study, an analysis of sperm and diet was conducted on 189 men between the ages of 18-22. It showed that high-fat dairy products (whole milk, cream and cheese) were linked with reduced sperm motility and abnormal sperm shape. In fact, some of this could be due to sex steroids given to cows.
