Bhagwan Yamraj

As per the Hindu traditional believes, the festival of Dhanteras is also associated with Bhagwan Yamraj. As per the legends, once there was a king  named Hima. On the fourth night, the princess tricked Bhagwan Yamraj, who arrived in the form of a snake, by lighting lamps and decorating the surroundings with gold coins and jewelry. Bhagwan Yamraj, in the form of a snake was charmed by the sparkling jewelry and captivating lights. The young bride also made sure that the 16 year old prince did not sleep by narrating stories to her husband.

Finally, the young bride of the prince succeeded in keeping Yamraj engaged in admiring the beauty of the lamps and stopped him from entering the house. By doing so, she changed her husband’s destiny.
