Results for these were announced on May 13, 2025 on the official website. Lakhs of students are now reportedly waiting for the board to open the re-evaluation or revaluation process.

It is a widely known fact that after declaring the result, CBSE allows for students to check their answer sheets and request for re-verification, re-totalling and even re-evaluation of their marks. This process is done online on the CBSE website and is payable.

Now, an alarming amount of Instagram ‘experts’ are spreading baseless information regarding CBSE Revaluation. While some are questioning why CBSE charges the money and how it is fooling parents, there are a few who are requesting all students to apply for revaluation.

The latter is disturbing. A particular Instagram handle is claiming that CBSE has admitted that the paper checking was ‘outsourced’ to third parties. The person further asks one and all to ensure that they get their papers re-evaluated.

Fake News Alert! No, CBSE did not ‘outsource’ results

First thing first, let us get this straight. No, answer sheet checking was not outsourced to any third party. Teachers of CBSE schools are deputed for the task. These teachers are qualified and experiences subject matter experts who are presently ‘employed’ by a CBSE affiliated schools. The teachers are also paid for the service.

This year too, thousands of teachers were roped in to do the evaluation of answer sheets. As per the figures shared by CBSE, over 2.6 crore answer sheets were checked and result computed. This is verified information.

Is there a possibility of Error in CBSE Result Calculation?

Before we answer, let us try and explain the method by which the answer sheets are evaluated. CBSE evaluation is a structured process. The board deputes a team of 20 people per centre to check the answer sheet.

Each centre has a Head Examiner, Assistant Head Examiners or AHEs, an Assistant Coordinator and Coordinators and Checkers. All of these are subject teachers with varied experience of teaching the subject they are checking the answer sheets of. HE monitors overall checking while AHEs are responsible for a smaller group of checkers. A coordinator is assigned to these sub-groups in turn to assist.

The board also shares a marking scheme for the subjects being evaluated. Each answer sheet is checked by teachers or checkers. The coordinators are responsible for checking the totalling and whether any question was left unchecked.

Once this is done, the answer sheets are then cross checked at random by the AHEs. About 20% of all answer sheets checked by all teachers are re-checked by the AHEs and 100% are subjected to re-totalling. Any error spotted leads to further scrutiny. The answer sheets are then again re-checked at random by the HE.

To sum it up, the answer sheets are thoroughly checked and many are re-checked. However, there is always the possibility of error and that is why CBSE promotes transparency and revaluation.

The board agrees that wherever there is human involvement, there may be a possibility of human bias as well as human error. To mitigate the same, CBSE allows all students to apply for revaluation – should they feel a need to check their marks again.

Why CBSE needs to charge?

Over 42 lakh students appear for the board examination. If there is no fee, almost every child might request for their answer sheets to be re-evaluated. The cost not-withstanding, it may lead to an exercise in futility and even block resources. It is important to remember that teachers are paid for each answer sheet checked. Re-checking of 2 crore answer sheets, or even 1 crore, means massive expense and time.
