National Testing Agency, NTA is at it again. NTA on October 31, 2025 released the Joint Entrance Examination, JEE Main 2026 notification and opened the registration window for January examination. It also released the Information Bulletin with various changes. Among the many changes was also the mention of ‘on-screen calculators’ and how students can use them. This, however, has now been removed.
What earlier seemed like a major shift in policy in JEE Main examinations, NTA’s information bulletin under its section of examination alluded to the use of standard calculators on the screen. NTA also mentioned that students will be able to use basic mathematical functions like addition, subtraction, multiplication, division as well as square root and percentages using the on-screen calculator.
This, however, is not the case.
NTA Retracts Information Bulletin for JEE Main 2026, Releases Revised Manual
The information bulletin released on October 31, 2025 has been revised. Please note, as per the revised manual, calculators will not be allowed during the JEE Main 2026 examination. In the clarification issued by NTA, it has regretted the unintended typographic error regarding use of calculators. NTA further reiterates that Calculators – virtual or otherwise, are not allowed.
Students and parents may please note that this also includes on screen calculators. In other words, the JEE Main 2026 examination will be conducted in the same pattern and manner as its previous editions.
Parents and students are advised to keep a check on the official website for any changes and updates in the examination. The confusion caused by the changes are regrettable but unfortunately not uncommon for NTA.
The final word, hence, is that no – calculators are not allowed in JEE Main 2026 examination. The exam will be conducted in CBT or computer based test format from January 21 to January 30. The registration for the same is open on jeemain.nta.nic.in. Students can fill the form till November 27, 2026.
